CHANEL SPRING COUTURE - REPORT

With Milan fashion week just under our noses, an increasingly amount of beautiful collections have been sprouting like weeds! I have been eyeing the Spring Couture 2012 collections recently (you know, the likes of Chanel, Dior, Gaultier and Valentino) and the one that stood out to me the greatest....the complete blue-ness of Chanel. Bedazzled in all sorts of areas, 150+ lovely shades of light and dark blues mixed together to create a very lady-like, classy flight-attendant mature women from Panam. With the entire collection starting off with basic blues cut in daring and unique shapes, it's already easy enough to find a commonality in the expanded necklines whether it be through design or construction. The classic Chanel coat design with the lines and pockets is still everpresent throughout the collection, truly bringing the elegance of Chanel to the runway. As the collection moves on, sequins and bedazzlements appear with large billowing sleeves. Coats got longer and sooner or later, there was a 1920's flapper dress feel. Karl played a lot with sheer blues which greatly worked with the setting of the runway show. Towards the end, the glittery fabrics went to the extremes and to have witnessed these in person would have been the experience of a lifetime. The modern, futuristic change in the construction and off the shoulder cuts towards the end really brought the entire collection together. Karl Lagerfeld is such a genius, sheesh.

For the time being, I'll let my rambling finish and let you feast your eyes out! On a side note: Style.com does not seem to have detailed photos of the pantyhose or jewelry but I will be on the hunt for more pictures to share!

What do you think of the collection?

Fashion Report - 1/18/12

I've always wanted to start a legit fashion blog but never had the time to continue with consistent posts.

Anyways, maybe this could be a starter? While watching the January 17th episode of New Girl "Story of the 50", I absolutely fell in love with Jess (Zooey Deschanel)'s silver and blue strapless sequined dress.

Lo and behold, with some further research...it looks like this dress is from Aqua! Same company that designed the turquoise blue and green dress from the NCL June Tea fashion show in 2009.

Two of my favorite aspects of the dress is 1) the sequin bodice: does not appear to be along the likes of crafty sequins sewn on to the dress, appears soft and complements the 2) soft layering of the blue dress. the fabric appears to be stretchy and solid enough (although i think a popular alternative to the thickness of the fabric would be chiffon) to wrap around the lower body.

Overall, would I ever wear it? Yes. It's a dress that may stand out in color but not taking risks. I can definitely see this as a popular option for homecoming (maybe not so much for prom) or winter formal. Safe pick and although typical babydoll style of most event dresses the wearer will likely not stand out fashionably (if one's interest was into affordable designs like Zara, ASOS, H&M). Very Windsor-like.

New Years 2012

Happy New Years! Spent the prior night with a fantastic hotpot/shabu shabu dinner with family and friends...nothing hits the spot like hotpot on a cold winter night!

a little bit of sunshine amidst the stress clouds

it’s the last day of finals week. can’t wait for it to be over. i wrote an earlier post feeling so burnt out about everything but for some reason, i felt like it was JUST beginning tonight. in less than 24 hours, i’ll be released from the wrath-like grip of my textbooks and study guides! woopwoop.

but anyways, this week has been really really really blessed. i think it was tuesday morning, while checking gmail i realized i got an email from the Tyler, the art director from the Culver Center in downtown rside. turns out, i was one of the selected 5 artists (undergrads + grads were allowed to submit artworks to be displayed in the Chancellor’s house…I submitted one of my 2009 paintings about two months ago) chosen by the Chancellor himself & his wife to have our pieces put up for display! apparently people from around the state will see the installations. basically, some paintings have been sold in the past but that is not a guarantee. & for some reason, the insurance value for my painting (determined by size) had been set at $300…..

the unlucky part of it all was that i left my painting at home….thinking i wouldn’t hear from them for a while. i called my parents telling them the good news and explained to them the fear about not being able to take up the offer because my painting was an hour away from school (& i don’t have a car here). but God sure does some amazing things. i think my parents were really proud of this opportunity and my dad offered to drop off the painting (he came at 9pm!). i love him so much<3 regardless of what he did for me that night, i still love him with every bit of my heart<3

i still can’t believe that happened. dropping it off at the culver center (and my little bike ride adventure downtown…..) felt amazing.

i don’t know if we will be allowed to view the paintings (because most functions at the Chancellor’s house are private) but i’m so so grateful for this opportunity. the paintings will be up until the end of the school year….so two quarters!

Rejoicing, always. “The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.” Exodus 15:2

Versace x H&M Collection

Was catching up on my fashion news and came across the Versace x H&M Collection sold in approx. 300 stores across worldwide on November 19! These are my favorites from the women's lookbook. Enjoy!

As you can tell, I love love LOVE black. It's simple, classy, and can be dressed up with different textures instead of worrying about color-clashing. Excited for this to be released in stores!
